About Artwork

This work took years to finish and is my most delicate and gentle piece as of 2019. It represents the beginning of my journey as a professional sculptor, therefore I called her my “Muse”. To me she is very feminine and lovely.

I used epoxy resins, fiberglass, glass shards and highest quality primer/oil as a finish. It’s mechanically mounted with screws on wood and I custom framed it myself. The frame is also decorated with matching detail and painted with oil.

About Artwork

This is the second piece I started 5 years ago. It went through a lot of revisions and is now finally done.

All hands are mine, at different stages of my life. The smallest ones in the middle are the most damaged. As I got older I’ve managed to heal and support myself.

Ecstatic Dance

Date of completion: 11/10/2019

Dimensions with the base: 20W x 16H x 14D Inches

Materials:

Main artwork and the base: wooden panel, foam, Bondo, fiberglass, screws and wire, epoxy clay, epoxy resin, acrylic panel, acrylic paints, non yellowing Art Resin, glass, artist grade oil paints.

About Artwork

This is a portrait of a good friend. The likeness was achieved via multiple reference photos and videos.
I wanted to portray her inner passion for performing arts and healing retreats. The glass she “steps through” represents the duality of her time shared between a solid and successful career path and ethereal inner calling. While always a joyful girl, her soul truly shines during the ecstatic dance with which she graces and heals.

I used many layers of various materials. The glass shards and acrylic paints are incorporated into the background layer along with splashes of non-yellowing Art Resin. The main figure is made of epoxy clay. The base is made of foam covered with fiberglass and mounted onto a wooden plank. Everything is painted with artist grade oil paints.

About Artwork

This is the very first sculptural portrait I’ve ever made! It went through a lot of transformations until I was finally satisfied with it 5 years later. I had to learn a lot about the materials I’m using, anatomy and woodworking.

Sculpting Frida Kahlo was a great way to hone my skills, not to mention an exercise in solidarity with her feminist nature. I felt if I were to pick a person of fame to sculpt, she was a great choice as I have a lot of respect for her individuality and fearlessness. Given the times she lived in it was probably incredibly hard for a woman to be so outspoken and unique. She inspires me to not be afraid expressing myself.

I use glass in my work as a symbol of pain or clarity. The hummingbird is the soul of Frida, an object often found in her paintings.

About Artwork

This is the second sculptural piece I’ve ever made. It went through multiple transformations over the 5 year span until I finally was happy with it. As I was demolishing and reshaping, I realized it started reminding me of a girl from my childhood. It is a rather sad story from my past and one I had to get off my chest…

She was one of the unfortunates from post Soviet Ukraine. Desperately wanting some form of human connection this young child of 16 didn’t know any better and I didn’t find it in me to give her any guidance or love. She died on the same day her mom had died a year earlier, from alcohol and drug overdose. I am still haunted at times by the memory of this beautiful innocent creature whom I denied a helping hand. Creating this piece is a way for me to work on those feelings and commemorate the forgotten girl named Kristina.

I don’t quite remember her features, but I portrayed her as best as I could. I later decided to add “water” in which she is placed with roses and glass thorns. You can probably guess what all three symbolize. I renamed the piece “Breathe – the story of a girl named Kristina”.

Perhaps this work will help someone else deal with a lost innocence of their own, or simply relate to the everyday drama revolving around substance abuse.

About Artwork

This is a portrait of my husband which was made according to his vision. An eternal struggle of men, torn between the pulls of the material needs and the pursuit of creative growth. I use glass in my work to symbolize both pain and clarity.

This piece took me over 2 years to finish and involved quite a few struggles of my own! Mainly, I had to figure out the safety and compatibility of materials and, of course, work on the likeness of my beloved subject. Since I hadn’t really seen this kind of art anywhere and didn’t know whom to learn from, I educated myself on the use of materials everywhere I could: Home Depot, manufacturers’ web sites, various art blogs and woodworking channels. I slowly learned and corrected mistakes as I went. The most tedious part was painting of all the crevices with oil brushes as I didn’t want to use inferior spray paints. I do not use paint thinners and only paint with refined linseed oil. The acrylics are used appropriately on flexing surfaces and frames.

I’m very pleased with the final results and so is my husband:).
